After doing My Week With Halloween for a few years, I wanted to do something with May 4th (May the Forth/Force Be With You) and decided to do film watching & blogging with Sci-fi films, just like I did with the Halloween films. Unfortunately, this won't be a full week since May crept up on me, however, with it being a weekend I get to watch more films in a day than usual – which should make up for it.
The Arrival (2016)
Twelve space craft land in various spots around the planet. To help with first contact a linguist, Louise Banks, and a physicist, Ian Donnelly, are asked to help to find out why the aliens are here.
This is a fairly strangely shot film, with good reason - I'm not going into the details of for fear of ruining the plot. It is a cerebral sci-fi that some people could understand better with a second viewing.
Splice (2009)
Genetic engineers Clive Nicoli and Elsa Kast have been splicing animal DNA to create hybrids for medical use at the company called N.E.R.D. After their 2nd successful attempt to create a hybrid, they ask to create another one but also want to splice human DNA with the other animal DNA. Their suggestion is rejected, so they decide to create it anyway, behind the company's back.
I find this film less of a horror film and more of a sci-fi curiosity, although I can see why it was labelled as horror. Well acted and enjoyable.
