Runaway (1984)

In the near future robotics are an everyday part of life where they take up tasks such as, a butler or an office sentry bot. Sometimes these robots malfunction and this is where a division of trained police officers step in, called the "runaway" squad. Sgt. Jack Ramsay (Tom Selleck) is a part of this team, who gets a new partner to help in the divison. They uncover non-standard chips in "runaway" robots, causing them to go rogue but who is making those chips and why?

This film was written and directed by Michael Crichton (of Jurassic Park and Sphere fame) and was supposed to be a big hit of 1984. Featuring well known names, at the time, including that kid from The Flight of the Navigator, G. W. Bailey (Harris from Police Academy) playing a straight role for a change and Gene Simmons (yup, *that* guy from KISS - the band). Unfortunately, this was the same year that gave us The Terminator, Star Trek III and 2010: The Year We Make Contact so it lost out to those. However, the film is quite enjoyable and it's nice to hear some processor names being trotted out here and there, like the mention of the 8088.
